Education

Our Dance Program

Our Philosophy

As dance educators, we believe it is important to challenge, encourage and inspire. Without challenging a student he/she will never meet his/her full potential. A teacher needs to evaluate each student individually finding his/her strengths, challenges, and potential and from there you can change a dancer forever. Working with their strengths, you can harness so much by giving them new challenges and testing his/her limits.

We want a student to feel comfortable pushing himself/herself and taking risks. Working with a student’s challenge can improve his/her technique and even his/her creativity. Giving a dancer a new point of view on the areas they need to work on can sometimes open a new perspective and cause a chain reaction that is astonishing. Finding their potential can give the student an idea of what he/she have to look forward to. Everyone has potential to improve and gain new skills, and by expressing to them how far you believe they can go, the dancer can set goals and feel the rush of excitement when they accomplish them. There is no greater feeling, as an educator than seeing your student reach his/her goals, especially when you had the opportunity to help him/her get there.

As choreographers we constantly find inspiration in others’ work. Amazing choreographers such as Bob Fosse, Gene Kelly, Jerome Robbins, Martha Graham, and Twyla Tharp truly gave us the dream of educating and choreographing dance. Their ability to express so much through movement most definitely shows how the art of dance can change someone’s entire perspective. Dance as an art form can give a person the chance to really let all of their emotions flow in a way words may not come close to expressing.  In the words of Bob Fosse, “Dance expresses joy better than anything else”.

Our Program

In our dance program we believe that anyone can dance if they have the drive. “Great dancers are not great because of their technique; they are great because of their passion.” We really believe these inspirational words of Martha Graham.  So often we have actors and singers enter our program with such a variety of dance experience and we have no problem accommodating to all. We want each person on stage to feel special and important to the production. During the process of teaching the actors on stage we use our time to help teach basic dance steps that they can apply later in other productions. We encourage questions and always offer extra attention to those who may feel comfortable with more review. With the more advanced dancers we take their skills and try to enhance them and use them to best fit into the numbers.  We also use choreography to spotlight every level of dancer. We do not shove anyone in the back and let them go unnoticed. We believe it’s important for EVERYONE to have a chance to shine. When it comes to the final product we spend time drilling even the tiniest movements to keep a synchronized flow on stage. Every number in the show is given a fair amount of attention so they are equally as fun to watch during the production. We want the whole audience to really see how hard our actors have worked and how much they have accomplished during such a short period of time.  Our goal is for everyone on stage to feel fulfilled after learning a new dance.
